Chapter 22

Half of our dining room floor was covered in handcuffs. Trailing to a halt, I raised my eyebrows as I stared down at the mass of restraints before me. Damn, they really had been busy.

“Damn, you really have been busy,” Paige said, echoing my exact thought, as she stopped and stared at the floor too.

I let out a surprised laugh.

Turning to me, she arched an eyebrow in confusion. I just waved a hand in front of my face.

“Yeah, he has,” Callan said, and jerked his chin towards Levi.

The King of Metal was sitting in one of the plush red armchairs while Callan and Henry lounged on a couch each. Slouching back against the cushions, he raised his glass of whiskey in a kind of salute.

“You made all of these?” Paige asked. “In just the few short hours that we were gone?”

Levi shrugged and took a sip from his whiskey. “Yeah.”

“Have a lot of practice creating handcuffs, do you?”

“As a matter of fact, yes, I have.” A devilish smile played over his lips. “And lots of other types of restraints too.”

I raised my eyebrows. Well, I supposed now I knew who had influenced Callan into developing certain sexual preferences.

As if he could hear my thoughts, Callan slid his gaze to me. The intensity of his stare made a pulse of desire shoot through me.

“How did your mission go?” Henry suddenly asked, trying to change the topic. “Did you find a place?”

Callan and I only kept our eyes on each other.

“Yeah,” Paige replied while strolling towards the couch. After pushing her hair back behind her shoulders, she unceremoniously plopped down on the couch next to Henry. “We found the perfect building. It’s near the academy too, so we can use that to add more weight to our threats. We’ve cleared it out, so it’s all done and ready.”

While keeping my eyes locked on Callan, I slowly bent down and picked up a pair of handcuffs from the floor. Fire surged to life in his eyes. I straightened and spun the handcuffs around my finger.

Levi’s sharp gaze zeroed in on me. “And what exactly do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m going to test them out.” Throwing a smirk in Callan’s direction, I turned around and sauntered into the corridor while speaking over my shoulder, “You know, to make sure that they won’t break.”

Wood groaned as Callan pushed himself up from the couch and cleared his throat. A thrill of anticipation made my spine tingle as he started after me. From her place on the sofa, Paige cackled and then whistled suggestively.

“Anyone who comes into our room in the next few hours will get a force wall in the face,” Callan announced while metallic clanking drifted through the air, informing me that he had also picked up some handcuffs.

As I reached the stairs, I glanced over my shoulder to find Callan striding after me with dark eyes. A satisfied grin spread across my lips, and I hurried up the steps.

“Just keep the damn noise down,” Levi called after us.
